Uniquely Made Employment Center

In March 2009, the 4RKids Foundation opened The 2nd Story Employment Center, a place where developmentally disabled adult workers find meaningful employment within an intergrated community setting.  And a dream begun six years earlier was realized.

Today 22 special needs adults are employed through 4RKids and The 2nd Story Employment Center.  These workers now have what so many of us take for granted:

  • a paycheck

  • social relationships with co-workers

  • a sense of self-worth

  • inclusion as valuable adults within a community

Dusty begins the process of making a ceramic "helping hand" at The 2nd Story Employment Center. Handmade, one-of-a-kind items, such as these, are sold in The 2nd Story Book and Gift Store with all proceeds benefitting the 4RKids Foundation.

Special needs employees come to us through two paths.  Some are supported through a state contract with the Department of Human Services/Developmental Disabities Services Division.  These adults receive services in the form of either the In-Home Waiver or the Community-Based Waiver.  Our contract with the state insures that we are providing the best training, job coaching, and other services to our employees, and in return the state offsets a portion of each individual’s salary.  Other workers participate in the Private Pay Program.  Through this program, special needs adults who are not receiving services through OKDHS/DDSD can still find employment in our center.  A parent, guardian, or silent scholarship donor aids in offsetting the expenses for these employees.

For more information on either the Waiver or Private Pay program for special needs adult workers, visit us any Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM at The 2nd Stroy Employment Center, 710 Overland Trail, Enid, OK.
